Handle with care – age adjust for your own kids and their manual dexterity and confidence. These are just ideas so this is a list or two to spark your own imagination.
In the Kitchen
- Teach your children how to handle a sharp knife to chop vegetables
- Can they open a can safely?
- Teach them how to make bread
- Can they make a cup of tea? Coffee?
- Do they know how to cook at least one meal?
- Do they know what everything in the kitchen is called and what it is used for?
Emergencies and Safety
- Do they know how to phone the emergency services?
- Can they lock and unlock an outside door, your phone (for emergencies), or the toilet door?
- Can they wash their hands correctly?
- Do they know why we are isolating and what this means? Of course they do but worth checking
Simple DIY
- Teach your child to sew on a button and /or sew two pieces of material together neatly
- Can they use a screwdriver – Righty Tighty, Loosey Lefty? Do they know what common tools are: Screwdriver, saw, spanner, pliers, wire cutters, etc.?
- Can they change a plug?
